Please note: This is only for estimation purposes - the exact cost will be determined by the town office when you register your vehicle.
How is it determined?
1. Your Vehicle's MSRP
The MSRP is the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of your vehicle. The MSRP is the 'sticker price' and NOT necessarily what you paid for the vehicle.
- To find the MSRP of an existing registration: The MSRP is listed on your current registration form under 'Base'.
- To find the MSRP if you do not have an existing registration on hand: You may be able to find the MSRP online at sites such as Kelley Blue Book. You can also call the dealership that the vehicle was purchased from.
2. Your Vehicle's Manufacture Date
Once you have obtained your vehicle's MSRP and manufacture date, you may proceed to the calculator below to give you an idea of what it will cost to renew the current registration on your passenger vehicle.
3. Vanity Plate Fee
If you have a vanity plate, the State of Maine collects a $25.00 fee.
4. Specialty Plates
If you have a new "Pine Tree", "No Tree", or "Veteran" plate, there is no extra fee. However, the other specialty plates have fees attached to them and the money goes to certain funds. All specialty plates, upon the first time registering that plate, cost an extra $20.00. After that, it is $15.00, with the exception of the Sportsman plate which stays at the $20.00. Learn more here.
5. Agent Fee
The Town of Sabattus gets an Agent Fee for providing this service on behalf of the State of Maine, as an Agent for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. If you are registering a vehicle for the first time in Sabattus (even if you've registered it in another municipality before), the Agent fee is $6.00. Otherwise, the Agent Fee is $5.00.
This calculator does not take into account sales tax (5.5%), title fee ($33), or additional fees if that applies to your registration if it is new to you!
